Artist Statement
The human figure features in a majority of my drawings through a variety of narratives, as I am interested in perception and transformation of the body. I explore a wide range of possibilities in which the human figure and its capabilities are represented in storytelling, and address the psychological, internal consciousness of our minds and the external nature of surrounding forces. Generally working in grey scale, I use this controlled palette of graphite, conte crayon, and ink to describe and convey emotions, creating an atmosphere of sensations through mark-making, texture, and scale. My figures consistently maintain relationships with multiplicity and repetition, as these strategies allude to the process of motion and sequential time in storytelling.
